About AIVS

AIVS was established in 1982 with the mission of enhancing international intellectual exchange of information about vascular disease and vascular intervention. Since its inception, AIVS has enabled vascular surgeons from around the world to unite this rapidly evolving specialty. Today, AIVS remains a rich meeting ground for young vascular surgery trainees from around the world and allows for robust interface with key opinion leaders. The annual meeting of the Association takes place each March at various venues worldwide, with the 2020 Congress concluding on March 14th in British Columbia, Canada.

The inaugural chairman of AIVS was the renowned Professor Roger Greenhalgh from Charing Cross Hospital, London, UK. The inaugural president was the famed cardiothoracic surgeon, Michael DeBakey. While there has been representation from over 20 countries including New Zealand and South Africa, the core group of physician participants have been from Europe. Dr. Adelman served as president of AIVS in 2012 and is proud to be the first American to serve as Chairman of this illustrious organization. He is honored to be working under the direction of the globally prominent vascular surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Ouriel, the founder, President, and CEO of Syntactx.

Dr. Adelman’s contributions and leadership in the world of vascular surgery are numerous, including over 150 peer reviewed publications, with ongoing contributions to medical research as Chief Medical Officer of Syntactx.
